Community & culture
Where Birmingham’s community comes together
Not everything we do can be counted in meals or classroom hours. Alongside our food, learning and employment programmes, our centre on Chesterton Road is also simply a place to belong.
Social gatherings
Three community events a year — and counting
Throughout the year, our centre hosts community and cultural gatherings that bring generations together under one roof — from religious celebrations decorated by our own volunteers, to simple weekly drop-ins where people come as much for the company as anything else.
For many of the women, older residents and families who use our centre, these gatherings are often the first regular social contact they have outside their own home — tackling the isolation that our own impact data shows is a real and growing reason people come through our doors.
Why this matters
Connection is part of the programme, not an extra
Our own impact reporting found social isolation was a factor for 15% of the people who came to us for support — which is why culture and community sit alongside food, learning and advice as one of our core services, not an afterthought.
Get involved
Help us do more of this in 2026
Whether it’s an hour a week volunteering, a donation, or simply spreading the word — every bit helps us keep our doors open on Chesterton Road.
